All She Left Was The Dog

Packed up the dresser, the mirror and bed Took the picture of mama and the boots I never shed Left the closet wide open, not a thing on the floor She even took the curtains and the key to the door All she left was a dog staring up at me Well, those same sad eyes that just won't let me be She took the truck, took the ring Took the last of my s'mores But she left that old house Now it both said broke A man and his dog In a house gone cold All she left was a doll And the silence she stole No note on the table Not a word goodbye Just a half drunk bottle And a bone gone dry He don't bark much now Just lays by the door Like he's waiting for her heels to hit that floor All she left was a dog And a world torn in two He's the only damn thing left that still tells the truth She took the life we built and the songs we sang But she left that old hand and this hurt that hand We howl at the moon cause we both know the song All she left was a dog And he still waits by the gate
